EnerGuide Rating Service (ERS) is owned by the Government of Canada, Natural Resources
Canada (NRCan), and delivered by Service Organizations. The Canadian Home Builders’
Association New Brunswick (CHBA-NB) is the only Service Organization responsible
for delivery of the ERS and the R- 2000 Initiative in New Brunswick. We have been
delivering this service since the 1980’s.
Step 1 – Registration
Register your house with the EnerGuide Rating Service, delivered by CHBA-NB. To
do this you must fill out the “Request for Service” form (which can be found on
the tabs to the right of this screen), or can be picked up at the Canadian Home
Builders’ Association – New Brunswick (CHBA-NB) office. All information must be
completed on the form in order to begin the process. Failure to provide all details
will result in longer turnaround times.
The EnerGuide for New Houses enrolment fee is $450.00 + HST. Full payment must accompany
the Request for Service form before the design evaluation begins.
Step 2 – Documents Required
1. Request for Service form,
2. House plans,
3. Window and door schedule,
4. Site plan with North arrow, and
5. Payment, in the amount of $450, plus HST.
Once all documents are received, a file will be established and assigned to an energy
advisor, who is contracted by CHBA-NB. Everything should be received prior to construction
to optimize the benefits of the ERS Consultation.
Step 3 – Plan Evaluation Results
An energy advisor will perform a plan evaluation using the information and house
plans you provide. You will be contacted with the results within 12 – 14 days. The
information the energy advisor provides will show the options you can choose to
obtain your desired energy target, as well as estimates of your home’s energy consumption.
Step 4 – On-site Evaluation
Once your home is completed, call the CHBA-NB office to set up your air-tightness
/ blower door evaluation and final inspection. Please phone one to two weeks in
advance to allow for scheduling. Everything must be completed and ready for occupancy.
Also, the heating system and heat recovery ventilator (HRV) must be installed. Please
ask your heating installer to clearly mark your heating system with the model number
and rated output as this information is required for the final inspection.
Step 5 - Post-Evaluation
After the final inspection and air-tightness evaluation, your energy advisor will
perform the final computer simulation of your house. This will determine the final
EnerGuide Rating your house will receive. A report will be generated along with
your EnerGuide for New Houses Label, which will be mailed to your address. Please
allow three to four weeks for processing.
When you receive your package in the mail, place your EnerGuide for New Houses label
on your electrical panel and enjoy the savings your energy efficient home provides.
